| Brief profile: | Keletron Love for Children is a non- profit organization established in April 2014 by a group of active citizens in the regional unit of Kastoria for dealing with everyday problems of children at risk and in need. It aims at protecting childrens rights as well as keeping them safe on the physical, mental and emotional levels. As a voluntary organization it urges institutions and the state to be more effective in protecting and defending childrens rights. Programs In response to the situation and conditions that have developed in Greece in recent years, Keletron Love for Children has organized and runs (since September 2014) five action programs: •I support because I believe in this cause (Support Bank —Welfare Stores): This involves the collection of essential supplies (food, clothes, toys,etc.) so as to support on a regular basis 75 families with a total of 160 children. •Psychosocial support —Counselling services for children, teenagers and adults:Since September 2014, Iliahtida-Life has been offering psychosocial support and counselling services to 215 people of all ages. •Open Creative School of Kastoria(Social Frontistirio) :Since 2014, this action has provided evening classroom support with 1,893 teaching hours for all core courses, with the participation of 20 volunteer teachers. •Health education programs for junior high and high schools in the Kastoria region: During the school year 2015-2016, special classes on the following topics were held: 1.School bullying: how to prevent and deal with the problem 2.Internet addiction 3.Child abuse and neglect These were attended by 698 students in 10 secondary schools of the regional unit of Kastoria, from October 2015 up to the end of March 2016. •A Warm-Hug- Childrens day care center:launched as a pilot action in February 2016. Since February 2017, the service has been functioning thanks to a donation from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the support of TAP-AG. In its first 6 months of operation (February-August 2017) the Childrens day care center provided 2-3 meals daily (breakfast, lunch, evening meal) to 25 children aged 5-12 (approx. 11,400 meals in total), educational support (225 hours), and creative activities (660 hours). |
