| Brief profile: | The association of PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF MENTALLY IMPAIRED PERSONS 'AGIOI ANARGYROI' was established in 1983 by the families of 38 handicapped children. It was the anxiety for the future that brought us together. Where would they live, who was to take care of them when we wouldnt be there for them, how could we take control of their life conditions in the years to come? So we felt strong enough to decide to create our own boarding house, where our children would permanently find a safe and decent human shelter. We had been convinced that this would offer us the permanent solution for a great social and psychological problem which all we shared. There is a long history of hard efforts and difficulties, but finally the accomplishment of our goal has nearly come to an end. We have already been running the boarding school since the 1st of September 1997 . Today our Association consists of the members of 52 families for an equal number of children. Our license defines that the installation is supposed to accept 52 handicaps of an IQ lower than 30%. The Articles of our Association define that the Association has no financial profit interest, except for the benefit of our protected members. |
