| Brief profile: | The Association of Volunteers Against Cancer "AγκαλιάΖΩ" was founded in Patras in 2001 with the purpose of informing the general population for early diagnosis of cancer, community education in cancer and psychosocial support for cancer patients in the prefecture of Achaia. So far it has 380 members, 145 trained volunteers, seven-member Board of Directors, Scientific Committee and a Social Worker. The Association implements the following programs: • Volunteer Training Program to educate stakeholders on issues related to cancer and use them as well in project teams to enhance its programs. • Program for Early Diagnosis of cancer by conducting information events, running information stands, organizing free preventive examinations to inform - aware - mobilize the general population about the importance of early diagnosis and debunking cancer. • Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program for psychosocial support for cancer patients and their families in an atmosphere of security, trust and confidence. • Inpatient Program Support for moral support for cancer patients and their escorts in the hospital during their treatment. • Program of Social Events for members and friends of the association for financial aid programs. • Program in Breast Self-examination in order to train women in breast palpation and manage their fears of the diagnosis. |
